Different platforms to listen to access the radio:

TV: Through streaming or through satilite

'Black Box' devices such as smartphones which enables the audience to access the radio from different locations and makes it portable

DAB Devices: This enables more choice of channels.

Internet streaming:  this enables viewers to stream the radio from the web on any device which allows internet access.


BAUER Media

Bauer are the UKs biggest publishing group as they began with making magazine, they also have the facilitites to produce, distribute and exchange radio.

Bauer is a cross media conglomerate as they make print, radio and TV content

'Portfolio' in business terms is a collection of investments held by an institution or individual.

'synergy' is working together and the reason conglomerates are formed

Bauer which creates magazine and has a sister company called Bauer Media produces the radio. They have a 50% share in BOX which is a music channel, through all these platforms they can target a wide audience as they focus on music content.

Bauer produces 'Bauer Passion' which is national and 'Bauer Place' which is local.

Some brands which Bauer owns which go across all platforms is Kerrang, Q, Heat. They can do this as they have vertical integration which means they are able to product, distribute and exchange a product where as an independent company cannot as they would need a joint venture to help they distribute and exchange

Production: a conglomerate owns production studios/ facilities which allows programmes to easily be made or pre-recored

distribution: conglomerate own a license to broadcast, via analogue (FM AM) or digital or internet radio

Exchange: audiences have to tune into a radio to listen.
